How do I activate Chatcove or move it to a new Mac?

To activate, open Settings, find the License section, paste your key and click Activate. To move Chatcove to another Mac, click Remove license on the old Mac first, then activate on the new one.

Your chats and backups never leave your Mac. The license check sends only your key, a random install id, the Mac's name and the app version.

Activate Chatcove

Find the email "Your Chatcove license key". Your key starts with CV1-.
Open Chatcove and go to Settings, then the License section.
Click the box that says "Paste your license key (CV1-...)" and paste the whole key. Spaces or line breaks from the email are removed for you.
Click Activate (or press Enter).

When it works, the card changes to "Chatcove Personal" with the pill "Activated" and the line "Licensed to" followed by your email. Export is then unlimited with no watermark.

If activation fails

The app explains the reason in plain words:

"That does not look like a Chatcove key." Copy the whole key from your purchase email and paste it again.
"That key could not be verified." Paste the entire key exactly as it was sent.
"That key is for a different version of Chatcove." Update the app, then try again.
"This license is already on its limit of..." Both seats are in use. See below.

Activating without internet

If you activate while offline, Chatcove still unlocks and registers your Mac the next time it opens with an internet connection. You have 21 days. Until then, Settings shows how many days are left. If it cannot register within 21 days, export returns to the free trial until it can.

After a successful activation Chatcove keeps working offline for up to 21 days between checks. It re-checks quietly when it opens and when a connection returns.

Move Chatcove to a new Mac

A key works on up to 2 Macs at a time. To use it on a new Mac when both seats are taken:

On the old Mac, open Chatcove and go to Settings, then License.
Click Remove license. This frees the seat and puts that Mac back on the free trial.
On the new Mac, install Chatcove and activate with the same key, as above.

Your iPhone backup password is saved per Mac, so the new Mac may ask for it or make a new backup. See using Chatcove on two Macs.

The old Mac is gone, broken or wiped

You cannot click Remove license on a Mac you no longer have. Email hello@chatcove.app from the address you bought with and we free it.

I lost my license email

Email hello@chatcove.app from the address you bought with and say it is about your license key. We find your purchase and send you the key again.

Remove the license on purpose

Removing a license on a Mac frees its seat and returns that Mac to the free trial. Your chats, backups and exports are not touched. You can activate again at any time with the same key.
