Chatcove help and documentation

Export your WhatsApp chats from your iPhone to your Mac. Everything stays on your Mac.

Chatcove is a Mac app that reads your WhatsApp history from your iPhone and saves it as files you own: web pages, PDFs, plain text or spreadsheets. You buy it once, and your chats, backups and exports stay on your Mac.

Chatcove makes an encrypted backup of your iPhone over a USB cable, because WhatsApp only includes its messages in an encrypted backup. It then reads the WhatsApp data out of that backup on your Mac and lets you browse, search and export it.

  1. Connect. Plug your iPhone into your Mac with a cable and unlock it. Tap Trust on the iPhone if it asks.
  2. Back up. Click Export WhatsApp. Chatcove turns on backup encryption if it is off, picks a strong backup password for you, and backs up the iPhone. You enter your iPhone passcode on the phone once.
  3. Pick chats. Chatcove reads your WhatsApp history from the backup. You choose one chat, several chats, or all of them.
  4. Export. Choose a format and a folder. Chatcove writes one folder per export, with one subfolder per chat when you export more than one.

Your iPhone is only needed for step 2. Reading the backup and exporting happen on the Mac, and you can unplug the phone after the backup.
